Capito, Manchin announce FEMA funding for Marshall County

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), chairman of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $1,473,380.63 to the city of McMechen’s Waste Water Sewer Treatment Plant in Marshall County for repairs. Funding is provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“Flooding and other natural disasters often damage water systems and lead to long term infrastructure issues,” Senator Capito said. “As chairman of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, which funds FEMA, I’m glad to see McMechen receiving these dollars for a fix to their treatment plant’s issues.”

“Investing in infrastructure is essential to improving the lives of all residents across West Virginia. In recent years, our state has endured multiple weather-related disasters that continue to impact our wastewater infrastructure like the terrible floods of 2016 and 2017 that claimed the lives of 25 West Virginians. These investments will help repair wastewater treatment systems that have been damaged by severe weather so that all West Virginians have access to clean water and sanitation, no matter where they live and our communities can continue to heal from the devastation they’ve endured. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for West Virginians to receive the services they need and deserve,” said Senator Manchin.
